During 2021, Integromat launched a beta of the 2022 version called "Integromat Next". This beta was composed of many partners, who were asked to test and give feedback on the new features. We were a little disappointed with this version of Integromat Next, which at first glance did not change the tool very much.

But on 22 February 2022, against all expectations, Integromat did not announce the arrival of Integromat Next Generation, but rather of Make. This is a real marketing repositioning of this no-code automation tool, which includes many new features.

Make has a much more intuitive and user-friendly interface, which allows users to better manage their data throughout the workflow creation process. Many features have been added to optimise the no-code experience.

1. New design and UX

Each section has been rethought and redesigned: text fields, date and time fields, drop-down lists, check boxes, etc. Beyond the design, it is more generally the interaction with these forms that has been improved. These fields, used during the programming of the modules, now make it possible to limit errors, improve the understanding of each one, optimise the distribution of the parts, etc. The programming of modules is therefore simplified and made more comprehensible.

2. Type of data per field specified

For some modules, it was sometimes confusing to know what type of data to enter: rather text, numbers, html, etc. Make solves this problem with a very simple feature: when you place the cursor on the name of the field you are interested in, a message is displayed to give more information on the type of data to be entered.

3. Sections with dropdown

Some Make modules contain a large number of fields that need to be filled in to set them up. Make now offers the possibility to hide the fields that we are not interested in to facilitate the configuration of the modules. This type of dropdown allows us to manage modules with multiple fields much more easily, as can be the case with tools such as Airtable or Hubspot.

4. Integrated search bar by sections

Some tools have a lot of files and finding the one you want to connect to your workflow was sometimes a headache. Make solves this problem with a search bar directly integrated in the modules. No more scrolling endlessly in a dropdown you can now search for the exact name of the file or document you are looking for.

5. Button for updating fields

The "Refresh" button has been redesigned, and extended to new integrations, to make it more understandable and simplify the setting of workflows. It refreshes the data of a module according to the chosen list. This type of functionality is used for example on Airtable or Coda.io.

6. Simplified data mapping table

The data mapping table is the overview of the data received by the different modules of the workflow. More precisely, this table appears when you are on the field of a module and you try to insert the data of a previous module. It thus gathers all the data of all the modules used beforehand, which complicated the recovery of the data on the large automations. This interface has been greatly improved with the help of a fairly simple function, the "collapse", which allows all the data to be unrolled or grouped by module. This makes it much easier to read and allows us to better dissociate the data.

7. More understandable functions

The functions in make are an indispensable feature. We use them in many workflows, and they allow us to take automation much further than we could in Zapier. However, it was easy to fall into the trap of functions within functions within functions, etc. It was difficult to find your way through all the . Also, it was not possible to know if our function was valid until we had tested it. These new features reduce these problems:

  • Underlining elements : By placing the cursor over your function, Make underlines the different elements that make up your function. This way, you will no longer have any problem finding the commas, parenthesis or semicolon that belong to your function.

  • Error message : a warning message appears when a function is missing one or more parentheses. This long-awaited feature on the "error message" of functions is not yet extended to other types of errors for the moment.

8. Optimised array/row management

The management of arrays or rows has been greatly improved. In the old Integromat version, adding a new row to a form was done by opening a pop-up window which then had to be programmed. Here, a simple "Add Item" button can be clicked to easily add as many rows as you want.

9. Accelerated module loading times

For many tools such as Google Sheet, Hubspot, Coda.io, Airtable, etc., the data loading time was several seconds. This slowed down the creation of workflows and was quite annoying. Make has greatly reduced the loading time of these modules to improve the user experience.

10. Mobile first platform and launch of Make App

Manage your workflows from your phone! Make is launching its Make App mobile application to make workflows accessible at any time, on any device. The management of workflows will of course be greatly simplified, to give access to the essential functionalities. For example :

  • Activate or deactivate a scenario
  • Go to the details of an automation
  • Cloning a scenario

The smartphone experience of the Make platform on a search engine is greatly improved. Even if you prefer to use the application, Make has redesigned its Mobile First interface by giving access to basic functionalities such as :

  • make basic changes
  • navigate within workflows
  • manage administrative tasks (user, package, etc.)

Bonus: New interface for date and time functions

The date and time function has been redesigned in "calendar" mode. Now the function allows you to easily add new dates and times in the right format with one click.
