Webflow CMS news with folders overview

‍Webflow just announced a (big and expected) technical update on the CMS part!

From now on, you can nest the pages of your CMS collections in folders to optimize the structure of your URLs and therefore your SEO. But not only that!

You can also :

  • Duplicate collection structures in 1 click
  • Hide all template pages of a specific collection in your sitemap.

The 3 important new features of the Webflow CMS

1. Nested collection pages in folders for better URL control

Nested CMS collection pages in folders on the Webflow designer

Prior to this update, all of your collection pages had to be located at a single level of your root domain. For example:

- The "Blog posts" collection published items on website.com/blog/ example-article

- The "Case Studies" collection published on website.com/clients/ example-and-case-study

Now you can define a parent folder in your dynamic (CMS collection) page settings to display these pages in a subdirectory URL, as follows:

- Blog posts" can be published on website.com/content/blog/example-article

- Case studies" can now be published on website.com/content/clients/example-and-case-study

You can even nest collection pages on multiple levels, for example: website.com/content/company/blog/example-article

This new level of control is particularly useful to optimize the SEO of your Webflow site!

2. Disable the publication of template pages of a specific collection

For each CMS collection created, Webflow automatically generates a corresponding "template" page by default. These template pages are not published in your sitemap, unless you modify the original blank template page. However, once the slightest modification is made, these "template" pages are automatically online and indexed (or at least crawlable) by search engines.

You can now disable the publication of "template" pages at the level of each collection by toggling the switch in the collection settings. Simple.

3. Duplicate collection structures in one click

Fun fact: I just finished publishing a Webflow site with 6 absolutely identical collections. So I had to recreate them one by one... by hand. Now it's just a click away 😅

Finally, you can now duplicate an existing CMS collection structure, rather than having to rebuild them one by one. Just open the settings of the collection you want to duplicate, then click on the "Duplicate Collection" button at the top.

Simple.

Here, here!
